The story of Cosy Cottage Soap starts with Clara crafting handmade soaps in the kitchen laboratory of a 350-year-old cottage in Ganthorpe, Yorkshire. Indeed, the Cosy Cottage is genuine! In 2015, while recovering from illness, founder Clara became more conscious of the potential dangers of detergents like SLS, preservatives such as parabens, and other additives found in many commercially produced skincare products. Leveraging her expertise as a qualified chemist and an Associate of the Royal College of Science, Clara began creating natural soaps that are free from sulphates, parabens, and palm oil, right from home. These beginnings still influence the ethos of Cosy Cottage Soap today.
As the company has grown, so has the team. Clara’s husband, Philip, manages production and operations, her son is the designer, her daughter works in the office, and other friends and family frequently join her in the workshop. In 2019, Cosy Cottage Soap relocated their manufacturing to new facilities in the charming market town of Malton, Yorkshire, where the first Cosy Cottage Store also opened in October 2020.
